One page rules Kill team Campaign, Game 3

Game 3 of the campaign and Tau are in the lead with 3 shards to the Nids 1. The Nids side still consists of a brood lord, a unit of termagaunts and 2 stealers, the broodlord is still represented by a stealer model but will be represented in game 4 by a broodlord mini by my opponent; they have a new broodlord model (the big dude) but are saving him to represent something larger (hive tyrant?).
The Tau team is still made up of the enigmatic kroot, his stealth suit buddy, a cowardly firewarrior and a brash fireblade with his pet shield drone.

The scenario generated was King of the hill which involves trying to fight over a single objective in the centre of the board. Now this is very out of sorts for the game and not an accurate representation of onepage kill team due to the overly small board we are using due to our small gaming area. To make a crowded table more crowded my opponent set up the terrain concentrated around the centre but to be fair this was done before we rolled for scenario but this turned out to be very cool for the game!

Both sides set up 12" deployment as per the rules, this should have been adjusted due to our tiny board but we started playing close to midnight so decided to get stuck in. Nids moved first, advancing the termagaunts up their right flank
Sushi-san cautiously advanced, goaded on by the fireblade behind him, the kroot was sitting on the roof by this point doing whatever it is kroots do when not eating s~#*.

The nids also advanced while the fireblade made a mad dash for the objective yelling at the pathetic firewarrior to keep up and to pick up his damn hooves while running!
The genestealers moved among the ruins waiting to pounce upon the squishy space commies.
Unaware the Tau forged ahead firing off the odd pulse round at the scuttling termagaunts with little success.
Upon nearing the objective the hero "crescent-fire" turned just in time to spot the stealers in the ruined building, he shot one and it was knocked into the wall to the left of the brave tau, wounded and stunned but not out; the Kroot saw the event and ran over to the other side of the roof and hopped down hitting the genestealer with his rifle butt untill it stopped squirming, and then a few more times for fun.

The second Genestealer made his move jumping from the top of the ruins first floor leaping high and down hard onto the Fireblade while he was distracted yelling at the kroot to stop being a git.

The diving charge took him by suprise and the tau took 2 deep wounds before he could get on his feet and fight back, he hit the nids next attacks aside with his rifle before jumping back whilst simultaneously drawing his sword and kicking off the wall at his back to send himself flying forwards with a downward strike that felled the tyranid.
The stealth suit unwilling to be outdone by a kroot and a glorified fire warrior engaged his jetpack thrusters and flew over the alley to land amongst the ruins hoping to track down the broodlord. The broodlord perhaps saw him as unimportant however and headed for the greatest percieved threat posed by the fireblade and ran straight past the stealth suit and down the ruins walls vertically pouncing on the badly wounded tau. The tau managed to deflect several attacks and several more were absorbed by his drones shield but then the broodlord destroyed the drone and landed several deep gashes in the tau before he could counter attack taking him out of action. The kroot was charged by the termagaunts who had been slowly scurrying up on the action during the whole skirmish and managed to overwhelm the bird like xenos savage but not before he threw one against the wall and stuck a blade in its head. At that point the game was over in favour of the Nids. What a great game.

In after action: The nids gained 2 pieces of wraith shard, drawing level with the tau at 3 shards each.
The tau got many points to spend on recruitment and items due to the bonus received for facing a higher rated warband. Nids recruited a second squad of termagaunts and a ripper swarm having recovered all their injured members and the broodlord levelled up, increasing his quality in melee by plus one (pretty terrifying stuff there for the tau!)
For the tau, a sad sad story indeed. "Pah-Cark!!" the bat s*&% crazy kroot died (R.I.P you beautiful chicken bas@$£^d you..) and he would have levelled up to having got 3 kills so far in the campaign and survied 2 games up untill his death. But Tau lucked out as I rolled high for my points during exploration and I had been saving up points in my stash. I sold the shield drone (at full price luckily) and with that had 99 points to spend:

I purchased a crisis suit commander with fusion blaster and shield drone, later I wil purchase for her a second fusion blaster as I'm using the famous shadow sun model. I did not replace the kroot but my kill team is looking good still. I need to finish painting the crisis suit commander though, this paint scheme is a pain in the bum.

One page rules Kill team 40k Campaign, Tau vs Nids game 2

I completely fell out of love with 40k due to the atrocious demands on coin purse and patience as the rules are quite frankly a wee bit shite.

Then I came across one page rules and was very impressed, a simple yet elegant system which doesn't leave any single unit nerfed or OP. Well at the end of the day, as much as I like to play non-GW systems and products I have a fondness for their miniatures and the fluff of the 40k universe and so this game suits me perfectly.

Moving on from my rant..... I have began a 10 game campaign and will discuss my second outing. The campaign allows each player to start off with a small force purchased with points and allows the usual fun list tinkering afforded by purchasing upgrades. Upon earning XP units rank up and and winning forces acquire 'wraith shards' (highest total at campaigns closing wins it all) and losers acquire more points with which to purchase more units.

This ensures balance along with a helpful giant killer type system by which higher rated war bands afford greater points acquirement for the loser depending upon the difference in margin. This sort of exciting cycle of loss and gain is also seen in that 1xp may be gained for killing an opponent but 2,3,4,5 etc xp may be gained by killing an opponent of much higher rating than themselves, another great and exciting leveler mechanic!

Tau lost the 1st game with no casualties and little points gained in return, the Nids lost no one but also luckily only gained a single wraith shard. The scenario that was generated was "Seize ground" whereby the goal is to hold all 4 corners of the table by having more higher rated units than the other side in a corner.

Due to campaigns starting with small forces and the size limitations of my living room we had a smaller than usual board (apologies for the stark white foamboard) the terrain consisted of some walls, 2 ruins, a building and a forrest area. Tau deployed first with the fireblade cadre and his shield drone on the left and a firewarrior to his right. The stealth suit and kroot delayed deployment in favour of a scout one.

The Tyranids deployed second , also deploying 2 of their number in a scout move. Tau won the scout deployment roll-off and placed kroot and suit on ruined tower while Nids later appeared behind the tower to draw their attention while the brood lord on the nids left and the termigaunts in the forrest fixed their attention on the Tau from further away.
Tau iniated contact with the enemy as the stealth suit flew around the side of the ruined tower and landed on an upper level, firing at one of the speedy stealers vaporising the hapless nid with his fusion blaster (mmmm ..crispy nid burgers)
The other infiltrating stealer wisely sped up, easily scaling the tower and gaining the height advantage on the Tau there.
The kroot carnivore "Puhcark!!" stands back to back with Shas'ui -Death stalker to face down any and all asailants.... Meanwhile on the other side of the skirmish the termagaunts trade fire with the firewarrior who has climbed up on to the roof.
The Genestealer atop the tower attempts to leap from the elevated platform and diving charge the stealth suit but gets hit whilst in mid air from the suits fusion blaster and falls down next to the kroot in a dazed and smelly pile of chitin. The cooking nid must have smelt good to "Puhcark!" as he promptly tore out the stealers throat with his beak and started to tuck in before deathstalker could hit the savage across the backside with his gauntled fist and warn the kroot off of the hazardous BBQ. Well atleast it was out of action.
The Brood lord moves over to the right flank to support the remaining Nids in the forrest but the turn ends and so the game as the Nids are in possession of only one table quater to the Tau's 2. Good game!
In the post-game sequence, all of the Nids recovered from their injuries and no characters levelled up. The Tau won and accquired 3 wraith-shards in exploration which put them in the lead, neither side managed to gain much in the way of points (resources to buy new stuff). Game 3 up shortly (it is most eventfull!)

Tau kill team update

I have made some progress with my tau kill team, I have painted my kill team so far (those that are playing at this stage in the campaign one game in) and also finished building my minicrisis suit/15mm scale regular crisis suit that is to be used for both onepagerules kill team games and games of gruntz 15mm.
